Finland Global School
A Nordic-inspired K-12 school in Al Khobar — a perforated white screen and deep timber eaves wrapping Learning Communities designed for ‘Learning by Doing.’
A working environment for learners — at the scale of a small district.

Nordic learning principles, reimagined for Al Khobar.
Finland Global School brings progressive, Nordic-inspired learning principles to Al Khobar — a K-12 campus for 1,050 students, developed with the client and the Ministry of Education. Education Design International led the educational planning, concept design, schematic design, and design development, shaping a future-focused model around inquiry, hands-on exploration, collaboration, and student agency.
Rather than isolated classrooms and segregated subjects, the campus is organized as a network of Learning Communities — open, flexible environments for interdisciplinary teaching, project-based work, and personalized learning. Learning commons, breakout spaces, think tanks, collaborative decks, makerspaces, art ateliers, science labs, and distributed resource centers run throughout, all built to encourage ‘Learning by Doing’ through active, authentic experiences.
The plan balances shared academic and social spaces with requirements specific to Saudi Arabia, including phased implementation and gender-based organization for older students. Indoor-outdoor connections, shaded circulation, and climate-responsive strategies tuned to Al Khobar’s desert setting support student wellbeing — blending Nordic educational philosophy with the Kingdom’s cultural context into one distinctive learning ecosystem.
