
Douglas Steele, AIA, LEED AP
Mr. Steele is a foremost international architect and design strategist having served more than 100 institutions in over 30 countries on 5 continents. Mr. Steele is a registered architect and planner and holds a LEED accreditation from the U.S. Green Building Council. He also held registrations as a Certified Landscape Architect and Professional Planner.
Prior to joining EDI, Douglas headed the education planning and design group at the award-winning firm of H2L2 Architects, leading the transformation into a recognized global leader in education, specializing in innovative solutions that foster interaction and raise student outcomes. Known for an exceedingly high level of service to his demanding clients, Douglas provides the smooth design and construction experience they deserved and the excellence they demand.
Douglas has spoken extensively at leading international conferences always stressing the need for good stewardship of an institution’s “physical endowment” and reinforcing why and how the Mission Statement should be reflected in all areas of the campus. He is also the author of several posted papers on this and other subjects.
He is a seasoned professional, uniquely qualified to manage complex projects focused on satisfying client goals, in each case solving client concerns issues while also setting new standards for educational design. Douglas served as instructor at Drexel University’s School of Architecture where he maintains contact as frequent design review juror.
Perhaps his most notable offering to the profession is his ability to build consensus among disparate collaborators, including other architects, always finding the ideal solution to best meet the client’s pressing needs, then crafting a process to bring these ideas to fruition.
