Trivandrum International School
An early-learning centre at Trivandrum International School for children from six months to six years — open learning neighbourhoods opening to outdoor decks, with reading and play pods shaped like Kerala's houseboats.
An early-years world, scaled to its children.

An early-learning centre inspired by Kerala's houseboats.
The Early Learning Center at Trivandrum International School was built for the most formative years of childhood — for children from six months to six years old. EDI designed it to support social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth all at once, in a safe and adaptable learning community where exploration, imagination, and discovery are part of every day.
The centre is organised as a series of open learning neighbourhoods that connect directly to outdoor terraces and activity decks, so children move easily between indoor and outdoor experiences. Within each neighbourhood, dedicated pods host storytelling, creative exploration, hands-on activities, and play-based learning, letting teachers support different learning styles in one adaptable space. Flexible furniture and stepped seating shift between individual, small-group, and whole-group activities through the day.
The pods take their shape from Kerala’s iconic houseboats, weaving local culture into memorable, child-scaled spaces. Soft flooring, abundant daylight, rounded furniture edges, and gentle ramps keep the centre safe and accessible for its youngest learners. Outdoors, sensory gardens, water play, kitchen gardens, sound gardens, and active play areas extend the learning and build an early sense of the natural world. The result brings architecture, nature, and culture together for 200 of the school’s youngest children.
