Shorecrest Preparatory School
A renovated Early Childhood Center in St. Petersburg — opening once-small, daylight-poor classrooms onto a wraparound deck, a secure playground, and a central Exploratorium where young children move and explore freely.

Opening the learning spaces to daylight and the outdoors.
EDI led the Master Plan and Interior Design for the renovation of the Early Childhood Center at Shorecrest Preparatory School. The center had been housed in a building with small classrooms, very little daylight, and poor access to the outdoors. The renovation opened the building up to a wraparound wooden deck with direct access to the fully secure outdoor playground, and the classrooms were connected to each other and opened up to a central “Exploratorium.”
The new plan allows teachers to work as a team and for students to move freely around the space, which is designed to accommodate various age-appropriate activity centers. The seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces resulted in students spending substantially more time breathing fresh air, learning and playing outside.
