The early childhood center at Shorecrest Prep was located in a building with small classrooms very little daylight and poor access to the outdoors (see the “Before” plan). FNI’s renovation opened up the building to a wraparound wooden deck with direct access to the fully secure outdoor playground. The classrooms were also connected to each other and opened up to a central “Exploratorium“.
The new plan allows teachers to work as a team and for students to move freely around the space which are designed to accommodate various age-appropriate activity centers. The seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces resulted in students spending substantially more time breathing fresh air, learning and playing outside.
