Sankore International School
A future-ready K–12 campus for an international school in Nairobi — a culturally responsive African learning environment designed to cultivate creativity, inquiry, leadership, and global citizenship.
A campus designed to cultivate creativity, inquiry, and global citizenship.

A future-ready campus for a culturally responsive African education.
Education Design International led the master planning, visioning, and design of Sankore International School — from campus master planning and visioning workshops through concept design, schematic design, and design development. Sankore International School was envisioned as a future-ready educational campus designed to cultivate creativity, inquiry, leadership, and global citizenship within a culturally responsive African learning environment. Inspired by the legacy of Sankoré as a historic center of learning and knowledge exchange, the project explored how contemporary educational environments could support interdisciplinary learning, collaboration, and student-centered teaching practices.
The campus planning emphasized Learning Communities, collaborative commons, innovation spaces, outdoor learning environments, and strong connections between academic, social, and community spaces. Designed to support both local identity and international educational standards, the project focused on creating environments that encourage critical thinking, creativity, entrepreneurship, and meaningful engagement with the broader world.
EDI worked closely with the school to develop a cohesive campus vision that balances long-term growth, operational functionality, and a strong sense of place. The resulting master plan creates a dynamic educational ecosystem that supports holistic student development while positioning Sankore International School as a leading institution for innovative and globally minded education.
