The Project

A residential campus for the next generation of scientists.

Kamnoetvidya Science Academy (KVIS) is one of Thailand’s premier STEM-focused boarding schools, designed to support the country’s next generation of scientists, engineers, researchers, and innovators. Education Design International explored how architecture and pedagogy could work together to create a highly immersive learning ecosystem centered around inquiry, experimentation, collaboration, and advanced scientific research — moving beyond traditional classroom-based instruction toward flexible Learning Communities for interdisciplinary exploration, project-based work, independent research, and hands-on experimentation.

Innovation labs, engineering workshops, robotics environments, advanced science laboratories, makerspaces, collaborative commons, presentation forums, and student research environments were carefully integrated throughout the campus to support authentic learning connected to real-world scientific challenges. Boarding life, research, wellness, and community interaction were woven together through dormitories, faculty housing, social commons, dining, athletics, and outdoor learning spaces — with shaded courtyards, walking paths, and ecological landscapes that root the campus in the surrounding Wang Chan Valley.
