International School of Düsseldorf
A campus master plan and fifth-grade Pathfinder in Düsseldorf — reimagining the learning environment to merge biophilic design with student-centered learning.
A campus master plan — realized space by space.

An interior landscape for learning.
Education Design International partnered with the International School of Düsseldorf to develop a comprehensive campus master plan aligned with the school’s evolving strategic vision for 21st-century learning. Through a detailed assessment of existing facilities and future academic needs, EDI established a clear roadmap to support the school’s mission and long-term goals.
A central element of that plan is the Pathfinder Project — a reimagining of the elementary school’s fifth-grade wing. A team of five fifth-grade teachers set out to deliver project-based experiences for 100 students, and the design brings the outdoors in: the wing becomes an interior learning landscape complete with a fort, tree trunks, and undulating peaks and valleys, pairing a professional space for planning and collaboration with eight learning spaces of different size and character.
Merging biophilic design with immersive, student-centered learning, the project shows how flexible learning spaces and thoughtful architectural interventions can shape future-ready education — integrating pedagogy and spatial design across the campus.
