DSB International School
A renovation of DSB International School in Mumbai — a thirty-year-old campus reworked into a connected learning neighbourhood of pods for Grades 5–12, joined by movable walls, glazed façades, and quiet “cave” spaces.
An existing campus, reworked into pods and commons.

A thirty-year-old campus, opened into a learning neighbourhood.
DSB International School asked EDI to transform its thirty-year-old Mumbai campus into something that matched a more collaborative, student-led way of teaching. The renovation replaces conventional classrooms with a connected learning neighbourhood — a set of interconnected pods for Grades 5 to 12, where students belong to a whole learning environment rather than a single room.
Movable walls, sliding partitions, and adaptable furniture let the pods open up into larger learning commons for lectures, seminars, group projects, or cross-subject work, then close back down again — so the space can change shape several times in a single day. Quiet “cave” spaces sit alongside the open areas for focused study and reflection.
Learning reaches outdoors through semi-covered terraces built for art, sculpture, and other hands-on work, while large glazed façades open the interiors to daylight and to the courts and gardens beyond. Completed in 2014, the renovated campus shows how reworking an existing building — rather than starting over — can change the everyday experience of school.
