The Project

A British K-12 campus, built around its central commons.

British International School Riyadh’s Al Hamra Campus is a future-ready, K-12 British international campus for 1,272 students across 18,683 square meters, completed in 2024. Education Design International led the project — from educational planning and campus visioning through concept design, schematic design, design development, and construction drawings — to expand access to high-quality British international education in Riyadh.

The campus is organized around a skylit central commons — a social and learning heart with tiered gathering stairs, an open library, and flexible studios that open onto collaborative learning areas. Specialist spaces, a makerspace, and engaging outdoor environments support a student-centered approach to whole-child development, giving students room to learn, explore, create, and connect.

Daylight pours through the skylit roof into the commons, while a deep pergola shades the entrance forecourt against the Riyadh sun. The result is a safe, inspiring, and adaptable campus that strengthens the school’s capacity for growth while giving families a vibrant educational destination.
