The Project

Where school, research institution, and startup incubator converge.

The Beijing National Day School Science High School STEAM-e Concept represents one of the most innovative and experimental educational planning studies developed by EDI, rethinking the traditional science high school as a fully immersive ecosystem centered around interdisciplinary research, entrepreneurship, emerging technologies, and real-world problem solving. Developed specifically for BNDS, the concept introduces entirely new organizational models for STEM education that blur the boundaries between school, research institution, startup incubator, and innovation hub.

At the core of the project is the revolutionary “STEAM-e” educational framework, which combines science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics, and entrepreneurship into a highly flexible and future-focused learning model. Rather than organizing students into conventional classrooms and departments, the school is structured around themed Engineering Incubators and interdisciplinary research centers focused on areas such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, virtual reality, ecology, automation, health sciences, architecture, emerging technologies, and digital media.

The concept introduces highly unique educational environments specifically invented for this project, including Business Incubators, Engineering Incubators, product prototyping labs, startup marketplaces, ideation studios, immersive VR learning environments, industry partnership zones, innovation galleries, entrepreneurial workspaces, and flexible research hubs where students can move seamlessly from research and ideation to prototyping, testing, marketing, and implementation of real products and solutions.

A defining feature of the project is its emphasis on transforming students into creators, innovators, and entrepreneurs rather than passive learners. The design intentionally eliminates traditional hallways and replaces them with active learning landscapes filled with collaborative cafés, breakout environments, project spaces, seminar rooms, demonstration zones, and interdisciplinary gathering areas where learning is visible throughout the campus. The architecture itself becomes a living laboratory that supports experimentation, collaboration, and continuous innovation.

The campus also integrates advanced athletics, nature-based learning environments, sustainability initiatives, dormitories, immersive technology infrastructure, and strong industry partnerships designed to connect students directly with professionals and real-world research opportunities. Conceived as a globally leading prototype for the future of STEAM education, the BNDS Science High School pushes beyond conventional educational models to establish a bold new vision for how secondary schools can foster creativity, technological innovation, entrepreneurship, and interdisciplinary mastery in the next generation of learners.
