Beijing Navigation High School
A “No. 1 High School” concept for Beijing National Day School — a highly personalized campus organized around twenty themed academic departments and interdisciplinary learning pathways that students move through on individual learning plans.
A high school organized around themed academies and personalized pathways.

The traditional high school, reimagined as a personalized learning ecosystem.
The Beijing National Day School-Navigation High School Concept reimagines the traditional high school model as a highly personalized and future-focused educational ecosystem organized around themed academic departments and interdisciplinary learning pathways. Developed as a “No.1 High School Concept,” the project explored how innovative educational models, flexible learning environments, and real-world application could better prepare students for the rapidly evolving demands of higher education, careers, and global society.
The planning concept organizes the school into twenty specialized academic departments including STEAM, Computer Science, Technology, Business, Humanities, Fine Arts, Health Education, Career & Technical Education, and advanced sciences. Students move dynamically between themed academies and specialized departments throughout the day based on personalized learning plans, creating a more flexible and student-driven educational experience.
A major emphasis of the project focused on blending theory with practice through project-based learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, mentorship opportunities, flexible scheduling, emerging technologies, and strong community engagement. The design framework integrated innovation hubs, collaborative commons, specialty laboratories, makerspaces, arts environments, wellness facilities, athletics, theater spaces, student cafés, and social learning environments to support a broad range of academic and experiential learning opportunities.
The resulting campus vision creates a highly adaptable and future-ready high school environment centered around personalization, innovation, leadership development, and applied learning. By combining advanced educational programming with flexible architectural planning, the Navigation High School concept positions Beijing National Day School at the forefront of contemporary secondary education and next-generation learning design.
