Biography

A new generation of architects — fluent in how the built environment shapes student learning outcomes.

Roni Zimmer Doctori has over 17 years of professional architectural and project management experience. She has served as an Architect and Design Team Leader at AlefBet Planners in Israel since 2007. Prior to joining EDI, Roni served as a consulting Principal Architect with Fielding Nair International.

She is a co-author of the highly acclaimed book on school design Learning by Design: Live | Play | Engage | Create. Roni has lectured, conducted workshops, presented keynote conference talks, and delivered full-day Masterclasses on school design in different parts of the world, including Australia and Canada.

Her portfolio of educational work includes schools throughout Israel. For the past several years, Roni has collaborated on innovative educational projects including the nationally renowned GOGYA Teacher Training Academy, developed by the AMIT Network of schools. During this time, she has worked on projects in Australia, Canada, India, Romania, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and the United States.

Roni has extensive knowledge and experience across a variety of building types including public buildings, welfare and community buildings, tourism and leisure complexes, neighborhoods and residential buildings, and industrial and office buildings.

Roni graduated with honours from the Faculty of Architecture and Town Planning, Technion — Israel Institute of Technology, in Haifa. Her commitment to education is inspired by the schooling experience of her own children, and she represents a new generation of visionary young architects who understand the profound ways in which the built environment impacts student learning outcomes.

She believes passionately that there is an urgent imperative for educational change — in Israel and throughout the world — so that students are better prepared for a future very different from anything we have seen before. Toward this goal, Roni works closely with EDI’s President Prakash Nair and other senior managers to explore a wide range of effective educational solutions: not only new ways to design school buildings, but also methods to introduce and implement highly innovative, student-centered curricula and technology tools in new and renovated schools.
