Biography

Architecture as a tool for educational transformation— where thoughtful design creates opportunities for learning, connection, and innovation.

Louis Sirota is an architect, educational planner, and design strategist who helps schools and universities envision the future of learning and translate that vision into meaningful educational environments.

As Director of Design at Education Design International, Louis leads educational visioning, stakeholder engagement, facility assessment, master planning, and design efforts for institutions around the world. His work is grounded in a simple belief: the most successful projects begin not with buildings, but with people. By helping communities define who they are and who they aspire to become, he guides the development of learning environments that support educational goals, strengthen culture, and inspire future generations of learners.

Louis views architecture as a tool—not the goal. While physical spaces can have a profound impact on teaching and learning, he believes great educational environments emerge from a deep understanding of a school’s mission, values, and aspirations. Through workshops, assessments, design charrettes, and collaborative planning processes, he helps educators, students, parents, administrators, and trustees build consensus around a shared vision for the future.

Over the course of his career, Louis has worked with independent schools, public school districts, international schools, colleges, and universities throughout North America, Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East. His experience spans new campuses, major renovations, educational master plans, strategic facility assessments, and long-range planning initiatives. Working across diverse cultures and educational systems has given him a global perspective on how learning environments can respond to local needs while embracing emerging trends in education.

A significant portion of Louis’s work focuses on helping schools navigate change. As educational models evolve and expectations for learning continue to expand, institutions are increasingly challenged to align their physical environments with their educational vision. Louis helps school communities explore these opportunities, identify priorities, and develop strategies that transform facilities into powerful tools for learning, collaboration, creativity, and student well-being.

Prior to joining EDI, Louis conducted research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology focused on improving the energy performance of campus buildings. He holds a Master of Architecture and a Bachelor of Environmental Design from North Dakota State University and is a licensed architect in multiple U.S. states.

At the heart of Louis’s work is a commitment to helping educational communities ask bigger questions about learning, culture, and the future. By combining educational vision with thoughtful design, he helps schools create environments that not only meet today’s needs, but support the possibilities of tomorrow.
