Avinash has extensive experience designing climate-responsive buildings and holds a Master’s degree from Kansas State University in Architecture, with an emphasis on Ecological and Sustainable Architecture. His expertise lies in sustainable design that improves the quality of the space and the well-being of its occupants.
He is passionate about daylight as the primary means to light spaces and about incorporating cost-effective sustainable strategies into building design and operations. He started his architectural career in India working on commercial and hospitality projects with sustainability as the focus, before moving to the USA for higher education. He believes in providing optimal design solutions through judicious use of space and efficient interplay between environment and design.
Avinash serves as a Team Lead at EDI’s growing Bangalore studio, managing a team of architects and interior designers. Before joining EDI, he worked for a sustainability firm where he led more than 50 LEED projects, facilitated design charrettes, coordinated LEED and other sustainability ratings, and provided daylighting consulting. His project experience spans commercial, educational, healthcare, recreational, laboratories, airports, libraries, hospitality, residential, and government facilities across North America and India.
He has presented at conferences including the International Radiance Conference and Rocky Mountain Green, and at workshops for the Colorado Governor’s Energy Office on various sustainability topics. During his time at K-State, he also led recitation classes in Environmental Systems in Architecture for undergraduate students. His Master’s research on the climate-responsiveness of vernacular architecture has been cited in numerous research studies.
He is a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED-AP BD+C) and a Green Globes Professional (GGP).
Avinash believes in commitment to sustainability not only for environmental reasons but also for social-justice reasons, and finds energy in learning from people and places through domestic and international travel. He believes that the world is his playground — as well as his classroom.
